i7 core Intel processors are some of Intel's fastest. A laptop does not have the same processor as a desktop due to overheating
It has a lot of ram memory 12 GB is good.

The hard drive is 5400 rpm whereas the newest are 7200 rpm or have SSD.

1TB is plenty of storage.
I buy my computer stuff at Newegg, found out about them from my brother who has built many for his own use.

The OS is 8.1 and I already have a 10.1 inch tablet. I traded an old desk top for it and don't care for the thing. It was a cheapo but the desk top was like 15 yrs old. The tablet works real well but there just not for me. I use a separate keyboard and a wireless track ball on my laptop. My only concern is the size of the screen, I'm using an HP 17 i3 now and this is a Toshiba Satellite Touch Screen 15.6 which most say is a far better machine, but I think it will work out. It's on sale so I'm getting at a good price.

Toshiba have an exellent rep, 4 of them in my family..all maybe 12mths old and none mine.
I am old fashioned - in desktop and lappy.
I digress...
The responsive screen has reported issues on some OSs' but could mostly be RAM related
like, wandering response and random search. Maybe a suck it and see thing with an RTD
option.
I see the OS as being the prime stumbling block.
Win10 is going to see a switchover to client/server software by MicroSoft.
No more issues of Windows beyond 'ugrade' of the desktop software which of
course by default will require silent OS upgrades and eventually a whole hardware
swapout. It is the way of the Windows future.
Soooo... you can take a swing at Win8 and trust MS support it till the lappy dies
or you can buy in cheap and take a hit if MS let you down, in 2017.

I would offer you will get used to the screen size?
My 22" CAD machine is like Google Earth after hours/days on the tablet.
[eyes zoom in,,,eyes zoom out - take a break]
But eyes soon adjust...and not forgetting it is not so long ago desktops
owned a view-hole not much larger than this tablet and a lot smaller than
a 15" lappy ! :)

Trust that helps some.

I don't see windows 10 as being a problem because the 7 and 8 get a free upgrade so it's not an issue. The problem is finding the computer because none of the stores have them in stock and I hate buying a computer without seeing it. I can order it Monday and have it Tuesday and that's what will most likely happen.

Hopefully you like it, I worked on a Toshiba touch smart 14 that's a few years old. I liked it, just didn't like tearing it down for a new hard drive.

That is a good laptop. Toshiba is a good brand. Built well. They are sell @ Amazon today 7/21 for under $500. That is a super deal!. hat i7 is the highest Intel CPU...
Good hunting.....

I think we about got. The problem we had was getting this computer and the old one sync so I could get everything on this one, after that things smooth out. I'm really liking it and there's a world of difference between the two, the i7 is super.

I really like this computer. My only disappointment in the thing is the fact I can't understand why Toshiba made this computer without a DVD, that's a littyle bit crazy. I can buy the external for like $69.95 but it just seem right for the amount of money spent that it doesn't have one. :confused2:

This computer at Amazon is 789.99 You can buy this computer for $50 less but it's not the Touch Screen. I caught it on sale at Staples for a whole lot less and it was a good deal only problem is it took 3 business days to get the thing.

It's sort of Toshiba's way to compete with the Mac Air, super slim and light = no DVD drive.

We have a Toshiba Laptop we bought a few years ago. My wife hates it, mainly because of Windows 8, but I paid 3 bucks to get her desktop back and get her a start button, all she cared about. With the windows 10 upgrade free we may upgrade her computer to that, which comes with a normal desktop setup and start menu.

I don't really have any complaints for our Toshiba, but I know in the past they had some issues with screens going bad, however in almost every case I heard of that happening, it was replaced by Toshiba.

My wife's is a cheaper version, and about 3 years old now. It was about 500 OTD from Best Buy at the time. I don't like the way her keyboard feels, it's almost thin plastic and I feel like I'm going to break it all the time. My HP laptop feels much stronger in that department.

However, I give them credit, they stand behind their product. Should be a great investment.

Not having a DVD drive doesn't really bother me because we have two other lap tops, a Toshiba and an HP that have the DVD drives and if I want to save anything I'll just do from one of those to this one. I have to admit that this computer is a lot more computer than I need or will probably ever use but for the price I really couldn't see going any other way. The windows 10 so far is and has been great.
