TG1860 some times pops out of gear

I am going to look at this mower tonight the person selling it says it pops out of gear sometimes is this a major problem or can it be fixed easily?

Ok after looking at it the mower doesn't really pop out of gear it just doesn't move very well forward and not at all in reverse unless you drop the throttle down to idle. This tells me it's probably a bypass valve sticking and not a simple low oil issue. Is there anything short of a new transaxle that has a good chance of making this mower operational?
