How likely is your black top to get damaged by salt or grit, or other efforts at snow removal? What methods can you use that are less likely to cause damage to the surface of your drive?
Most important thing to do with black top is keep it sealed... the sun will cook out the oil from the asphalt, have to redo the surface occasionally. Keep extreme loads off.
And like all hard surfaces it is best to use a rubber edge on the blades that make contact... :smile:KennyV
You say keep it sealed-so how frequently do you reapply the top surface? And is that all it requires, or is there something else that you can do to maintain it, and stop it from drying out and cracking?
Just depends on the quality of the original mix...
If it has a good base it should not do that much cracking. Keep the cracks sealed so you do not get freezing damage.
Other than keeping the sun from baking it (not too practical) ...?
I'm going to agree here again. I haven't noticed a lot of damage on tarmacs myself as long as they have been well maintained. If you let them go, that's when the trouble can seep in.
