I was just given a GT5000 from a friend and the tractor looks and runs great. It is a manual 6 speed and has a 53" cutting deck. After cleaning off the deck it looks like it may be junk. The metal by the front attachment points is so thin that its probably not safe to use. I was considering lining the inside of the deck with epoxy, but the attachment points concern me.
Questions....
Anyone know if a 50" deck from a 2006 will fit? One strange feature of this mower is it has rear clips that are spring loaded and pull out to drop the back of the deck. The deck I see from the 2006 does not have that bracket.
Also, the 2006 mower has a hydrostatic trans. Anyone know if I have the donor mower if I should be able to swap the trans and shift/brake linkage?
Not quite sure about what you mean
If the front of the deck walls have worn thin then weld some reinforcing on the inside
I use old mower blades forged to fit because they are usually high strength boron steel so make excellent wear plates
Welding is a skill I unfortunately don’t have so I was thinking of doing an alternative. It makes sense that steel will better take on the impact of sticks and an occasional stone.
Is there an interchange chart between the years for decks and transmissions?
So this pull out spring loaded rear clip was part of the 54" deck, but the 48" a year older did not have it. The 50" that was 4 years newer did not have it. I therefore have to find not only a deck but compatible arms to raise and lower the deck.
