Z, you are going to have to give us a little help if you want us to help you. You have a Hustler Z with a Kawasaki engine. We need to know model numbers of the Kawasaki and the Hustler numbers wouldn't hurt either. Without them very few if any of the techs here are going to help you, because we don't like to like newbes and guess what you have.

Looks pretty straight forward if this is it. https://www.partstree.com/parts/kaw...-cs06-kawasaki-fx921v-4-cycle-engine/starter/

Appears to have 2 bolts, studs, or one of each going through a flange style mount to the engine.

that's what I thought, but I couldn't be sure because he didn't post numbers.

It may seem straight forward to the two of you, but on some Kawasaki engines you have to remove the shroud and flywheel to access the starter mounting bolts. That is the reason I asked for numbers. I also requested unit numbers, because in the past I have found that how the engine is mounted in the unit will affect how easy it will be to get at the starter. Plus, if I had numbers, I might be able to provide the OP with a service manual to help him out. Guess I'm over thinking this one.
