Suggestions on Kawasaki FJ180V "A"-suffix engines?

I bought one of these really cheap and it is running OK so far. I have heard (but don't know if it is true) that the "A"-suffix engine had breather problems, and tended to suck all its oil out the breather. Can anybody confirm this, or tell me if it's wrong? Are there any fixes available? Thanks!

I don't know about possible fixes, but this sure sounds to me like a machine that needs to have a clean air filter.
