start problem

i have a very old yard machines 21 inch/4hp gas lawn mower.

i dont know what its called, but before you start the machine, you have to push this red button a couple times before you pull the string, and that red button doesn't seem to work. when it does work, it seems to pump very well, but that pump isn't working now.

how can i fix this? ty.

It's a primer bulb...
You didn't say if you had a Briggs or a Tecumseh engine...
But they are very similar...
