Scag SR708 ( loncin )
Scag do not show the oil filter is any of their parts books
You use the Loncin filter
or any B & S filter
Oil filters are really overkill on mower engines where most of the lubrication is splash
They create endless amusement on forums for techs as owner get stress related heart attacks over which one is best
In reality you cold leave the original one there for the entire life of the mower and it would still be fine to use.
I used to leave them there but customers thought they were being cheated so I replace them now which keeps them happy
Filter medium wise they are the same as car filters and car filters get changed at very long intervals
And no car filters should not be used with mowers as the internal valve set up is different.

Loncins usually take a standard mower filter
3/4 x 16 US pipe thread , around µm filter media. no drain back valve and around 10 psi bypass valve .
So any B & S , Kohler , Tecumseh filter will fit
Most Honda ones wont because they have metric filters
SOme Kawakasi filters will also fit but they can come in both US or Metric threads depending if you have the EU eng or the US engine .
A B & S Short will fit just about everything that has a US thread
The big problem is having enough space to remove the filter when in place
B & S Filters are the fattest , Kohler & kawakasi are the thinest
