I have a Southland Wheeled Trimmer SWSTM4317.2
Last summer I replaced the fuel lines and primer bulb and got it running good
This year I started it up and was using it and the trimmer was turning when I gave it gas
But that all changed!
As I as I was giving it gas (pushing down on the throttle handle) the trimmer head stopped moving
I would start out with it running and the trimmer head turning and then it would not turn no matter how I pressed the throttle down
The trimmer head does not turn like it supposed to when it idling
And when I give it gas it turns like it supposed to but with giving it gas the trimmer stops turning and stalls
Is there a clutch problem it holds making trimmer head move and stops turning after a little and stalls

Looking at a parts breakdown there is a clutch head assembly, but because I’ve never worked on one of these units I don’t know how they are setup. If it came to me the first thing I would do is remove the clutch head and see if there is any obvious damage to the parts where the assembly attaches to the engine. I’m attaching a parts breakdown and owners manual in case you don’t have one.

Being powered by a two cycle engine it is more likely you are having a carburetor problem where the metering diaphragm has stiffen.

Thanks for the info you provided
I wish there was a video showing how take it apart
The illustrated parts list leaves much to be desired as far as disassembly and assembly!
I noticed the Southland Wheeled Trimmer is the same as the Powermate Wheeled Trimmer I think Powermate makes it or visa versa
I’ll try to search replacing the clutch on Powermate maybe theres a video for disassembly
Thanks
Mike

As always I turned something simple into a cluster $&@!
Haha
When I took off the old clutch I tried to make sure the washers behind behind the clutch came with the clutch unfortunately they did not they fell into the motor!
I got 3 screws out the shroud and the third one is stuck
I think if I can get that phillips/slotted screw out I get to the 2 washers see photos
Photo with yellow arrow shows place where the washers fell into
Photos showing washer and clutch
Photos showing stuck screw close up and stuck screw with a screw I got out
Photo showing housing that clutch goes into

Well I drilled the old screw out got new screws at the hardware store so that should be good to go
But by taking off that cover it didn’t expose the washers as expected They are still in there as far as can tell
Next I take off gas tank I believe the washers are there between the gas tank and the metal screen mesh
I think!
