That is a cool idea. Maybe you could put sand in it, too, because salt is destructive to the driveways.

Get some kind of a rock bar or a big steel pipe or round stock of some sort. it will help bust up the ice under the snow like if it rains then snows. then once its broken up then take your metal shovel and scrape the rest up.
