0Don't know precisely ,but the term is used out here also. After my front yard died a lawn person declared I had snow mold. The yard was later diagnosed to be seriously acidic Ph reading 4.9 by a test lab. That did not help. The yard is in swamp grass patches, moss, red sorrel, and miscellaneous as I can not get any response from local pro's. I guess they have more business than they can handle. I need to cover it with clear plastic to bake 6 weeks in summer sun to kill everything, lay down new topsoil and reseed. This soil is very rich but contains 3" sized rocks which prohibit easy cultivation. The lab specified 2 tons of lime per acre to return to a more neutral Ph (not a misprint!). I have spread the lime with my trusty Craftsman dyt 4000. Rinfall here (Cascades, 1800 feet) so far 70". It pounds the "base" ingredients out of the soil. Down in Portland I saw a large business yard totally in thick , green moss. Maybe that's the ticket.:confused2:
