Snapper 21400 repower with Honda, before safety bail

Hey all, I'm far from a mechanic, and need some assistance. One of my mowers is an old red and White Snapper 21 push mower. I really love it, it's light, steel everything, easy to push, etc. The engine is getting old (it's the second engine on it, a Briggs quantum 5.5).*

Here's the dilemma. The Briggs is getting old, and I REALLY want a Honda GXV160 on it. I was talking to a shop about it here in Phoenix and he was hesitant on saying yes*or no, because my mower doesn't have a safety bail and he said we would have to figure a way to bypass that. You know I never thought about that, my Briggs I can turn off with my throttle lever, and I guess new engines aren't like that?

I know I've seen old snappers with the commercial Honda engine on it, any ideas how to accomplish this, or rather what do I need to do? Sorry if this is a dumb question, ive actually only had BBC mowers, and this one doesn't have any of it, so I've never really thought about it.

Pics are the mower and how the current*engineshuts off.

A Kawasaki Kai might not be a bad idea either, much cheaper. I'll look into that as well

Sorry to bring up a dead three but I myself have a 21400P from 1981 that still has the original B&S 4hp 110908 engine. It will run but uses as much oil as gas. The Harbor Freight predator engine looks very inviting. Did you find a solution to your problem? I searched but didn’t see much for this.

I am wondering the same thing. I want to repower mine, then rebuild the engine on there for a back up.
I have a predator motor, just not sure about shaft size and pulley for the self propelled

I have the same motor as the original post - originally off a snapper laying around that i am looking to sell. PM me if interested.

Sorry about the late replies, I did get a solution, I found a brand new Honda GXV140 and it mounted. I wired a little kill switch and it's good to go, runs at least twice as strong as the B&S
