my 21 inch self propelled mower 2005 year needed a new hex shaft bearing, the one neared the rubber drive wheel, not the one on the pulley end of the hex shaft.
I went to snapper dealer and ordered one, waited 2 days, went back, picked up the bearing, in a sealed bag, went home. the bearing is only sealed on one side (the factory bearing was somewhat sealed on both sides to keep dirt out. this snapper replacement made in china ,you can see through on one side the ball bearings, its not sealed by metal or rubber on that side. I talked to someone at briggs/ snapper, they think it might be a china defect.
any opinions? can the bearing survive being open? part number is 7026693yp.
I installed it, and greased it , it might last till fall, only a $6 bearing but is it supposed to be open (see the balls on one side) or closed - covered over ?
I could go back to the snapper dealer but they are somewhat grumpy and will say we don't inspect the parts, snapper does. they also told me there is no o ring on the pulley bearing on the OTHER end of the hex shaft, and the diagram shows an o ring and there is one in my mower.
maybe buy online?
First, get a new dealer, as you have a bad bearing and missing o-ring. Open bearing (it should be closed ) in that location will not last long and dealer should know his equipment to get you an o-ring.
