Shrunken bowl gasket

Does putting a bowl gasket (rubber) in boiling water help expand it long enough to get it back on and tightened?

Personally I doubt it, but have never tried it. Newer materials are not like the old gaskets. Question I always ask myself, is it worth my time if it doesn’t work?

I would like to find a way to shrink them sometimes . Most of the time I have issues with them swelling and won't fit.
