Should YouTube Comments Be Censored ?

I'm sure we all know that some of the comments on some YouTube videos are quite obscene, and the worst bit is that they are usually on good, informative videos!

Basically, if YouTube said they were thinking of making the comments censored, with asterisks like on most forums, would you back it ?

There is No need to censor YouTube... too many people have too varied a tolerance for what they read...

If you read something you do not feel is appropriate you can approve (thumb up) OR disapprove (thumb down) .. any comment that gets too many downs will be hidden automatically....
There are crude people about... but I don't think we 'need to be shielded' from their moronic comments...

Google is doing a good job as it stands...:smile:KennyV

Well yes, they can be thumbed down, but there are a few crude comments I've seen that have actually been thumbed UP by people!

I guess I'll have to face it, we live in a crude world.

You can't even call a cat by a widely known word without people thinking about the double entendre... :frown:

I agree that some of the language etc. is over the top. I don't know if censoring is the answer, but atleast we have a volume control. I would hate to give up useful information. Maybe they just need bleep control:thumbsup:

And you will!

I'm going to start mowing in around June/July, so I'll do a cold start video then, and maybe even a short mowing video if you're lucky!

There really are those people who seem to be up to no good and would just go about saying whatever they are feeling even without consideration to the use who probably owns the video.

Though commenting should not be censored as there very well are the more constructive comments that would be useful to the artist or other commenter in that case.

I like the idea of not showing automatically those with lower ratings.

IMO, no, we shouldn't try and censor it. People will just find ways around it any way.

I am personally shocked and dismayed to see that anyone would suggest censorship in any form. Censorship starts small and then works it's way up to book burning and worse. I prefer to vote with my feet. If I don't like what somebody writes or says because they use expletives or raw sexual reference, I ignore it like it didn't happen and move on never to return again. If enough people did that, then the graffiti artists would have to find another way to shock and alarm you. Once we start to discuss censorship, the idiots have won the game.

Sad part is some graffiti is AMAZING and they paint over it instead of leaving the ART! I can see gang signs and stuff like that but ever see what some of these kids can do with SPRAY CANS? I mean WOW!!!

I can remember some of the outstanding art painted on the NYC subway trains in the 70's and 80's. There was some real talent displayed on those trains.

And yet they paint over it. We should find these kids and give um a contest to see who is best...

I all for freedom of speech. I hate some of things I have to listen to every day but we should be allowed to say what ever we want. When we want. That's one of the perks of being in the USA!!!
