Seat Belts On Mowers

I've shopped around before purchasing and when I looked at the commercial mowers I always chuckled and said I can't believe they installed seat belts on these things and said I'd never use the things. Just wondered if anyone else would or does and if people think there a good idea?

Personally I wouldn't. Unless I was mowing a very hilly or bumpy yard. I would feel like it would constrain me from being able to get up quick and move something. If you are mowing on a 20 degree angle, yeah, but on a normal residential yard, I probably wouldn't.

i have a seat belt on my ZTR and yes i wear it because its another safety feature yes it can be a big hassle but it can save your life the ones you will see with seat belts are the ones with ROPs on them or roll over protection systems or roll bar your supposed to wear it when the roll bar is up when its down you don't wear it i mean after all i don't want a 1600 pound mower rolling over on me so i wear the seat belt and leave the ROPs in place

Like I said, I have to chuckle to myself every time I see a mower with seat belts. I know and agree with you that it's a safety feature but it just seems weird. As far as the ROPS goes I don't think I'd like it either because they can restrict where you can mow because they get caught on trees branches and who knows what else. I guess in the right situations the Rops mite be very useful.

That's a good point, I can't count the number of times I'm on and off a mower to pick something up or to move something out of the way. Using a seat belt could be time consuming.

its not that time consuming and i don't use mine for commercial use so i just use it at home and i keep all my trees trimmed up above the ROPs i can see if you was doing to it as a profession it could be a pain who knows maybe air bags and anti lock brakes are next LOL

You can get brakes for the front wheels of a ZTR! TEDBRAKES Zero Turn Mower Front Brakes - Bad Boy Mowers

Don't let the government hear about seat belts or they will make it mandatory on all new mowers and make you wear helmets. That should add another 200 dollars or so to the cost of a new mower.

I really do not understand this safety feature stuff on the ZTR mowers. Tell me why the homeowner can go down and buy a residential mower and it's equipped with safety switches to keep it from mowing in reverse and a commercial unit is not. You buy a commercial unit and it's equipped with a ROPS and seat belts and a residential is not. The Industry doesn't seem to have a standard for any of this stuff or is all just about where they can make the most money.
