well I picked her up back at the start of February and have been slowly working on it. had to wait on a solenoid and when they came the starter nut stripped so had to wait on that

Model # 197-257030

Im at the point of trying to get the carb tuned in then to fix up the plow mount(tighten it all up and weld some washers in to fix some slop)

I got the idle somewhat set on this OH140 engine (Tecumseh 14 hp) but I cant get a smooth idle and there's a valve tap

Also when I try to speed it up it does nothing at all.

So my question is how to I get this trouble some carb tuned in?

Sorry I don't have much time right now to help you, but until I can get back this evening, maybe these service manuals can get you started in the right direction.

I would start by checking all the governor links and springs are fitted and working.

all that seems to function as it should, when I did have it running and and I had throttle maxed out it wouldt rev and th little bit it did I would just surge.

Please read the manuals that Rivets posted, if you are sure about the links from gov to carb are working, you may need to clean out the carb again.

read them over with no luck, the WHG carb that was listen in the pdf's was different then mine. I have 3 screws on 1 side, 1 for throttle stop another closer to the engine and 1 that points down into the bowl(will get pics) going to try another good cleanout and see what happens.

Post up some photos of the carb, that way we can help you find the one you have. or look for numbers that should be on it, and post them up.

You can also read this manual which may also help you out.

the main issue with these guides is that it doesn't list what each screw is on my carb.

Rivets

Go to the Walbro website, type in WGH-17 and it will list the parts breakdown. From that you will be able to figure out the purpose of each screw.

ok, got the screws figured out, guess its time to go heat up the garage, give it all a good cleaning and see what happens.

I take it you did not read page 19...!

I take it you did not read page 19...!

my carb has a standard bolt at base of carb. nothing with a needle through it.

When you get back to it, put in a new plug and adjust the valves...

well I had it idling great was even able to drive it a bit! then all of a sudden just died starts up and dies again. no idea why its doing this. ive gotten in tractors that had the carb gummed up that bad I didn't think it would ever run again that tuned in minutes. Max rpm is also barely above idle.(arm moves when tractor isn't running) ready to take it to the shop and pay to have it done... cant figure it out

You just may have beads of water rolling around in your tank, filter, and carb.....

OK! The screw ,just above the float,is the idle mixture adjustment. Turn it IN,until it LIGHTLY seats, then OUT 1&1/4 turns.
The screw nearest the air cleaner,is the high - speed mixture screw. Turn it in to lightly seat, then OUT,1&3/4 turn.
Start the engine, and warm it up,& set it to idle position, then,SLOWLY turn the idle mixture screw in,until it stumbles, and note this position.
Back it out, until it smooths out, then out more until it stumbles. Turn it IN,again until it smooths out,+1/2 turn.
Next, set the throttle at full, and slowly turn the high speed screw in,until it changes rpm.
Back it out, until it just smooths out, then out some more, until it changes speed.
Turn it in,until max rpm is reached, then put the throttle on idle, and QUICKLY run it to full.
Any stumbling/black smoke turn it in 1/4 turn, until it is right.

Special note: These carbs are very touchy, and can be messed up with even the slightest dirt, water in fuel, etc.
