I have a old scag super z(ssz) I believe it's l like a 1999. Model CV22S, serial # 2732308 on motor tag and wrote with marker under seat SSZ22CV-70000. Wife was mowing the other day and the and the left side just lost power. No noises or grinding. Right side seems fine. Seems there is a little oil under there but I don't see where it's coming from. Maybe the pump? Don't know how to check it? Pump is a hydro gear BDU-10L-216. Any help would be great.

Request Rejected click anyway, locate serial number from data plate on mower for correct manual & parts list. You need to inspect all traction drive components making sure belts, pulleys, idler pulleys & bearings, hardware is all in good working order before proceeding onto axle & pump removal for inspection of possible failure.

Looks like on parts list it has an oil tank (might be under seat) where you add oil for drives it uses 20w50 oil.
I guess it is possible that if left drive leaking it is low and won't move and now tank is empty but the right has enough in it to operate, the oil tank fills both drives.

You need to figure out where it is leaking if it starts working again when you put oil in tank.
I don't know how much you need to put in it, look on tank and see if it has fill line.

Ya I checked the oil level, all the drive components, linkages, belt, etc and everything looks good. Still seems to move in reverse but almost no power in foward and you hear the hum\grunt whenever i actuate that side. I'm thinking it is that left side pump. Cheapest I can find one is $538.00 and I can't find a rebuild kit for it anywhere. Seems like a pain in the butt too .

As for the tank, it should be able to be seen but not full, no more than half way in the overflow tank, more like 1/3 visible fluid, as it heats up and expands. If its 1/3 as you start using it cold, as it heats up it will show more like 1/2 or even 3/4 full as the oil heats up and needs room to move upward in the tank. My Scag feeds both drives from 1 tank, some mowers have an overflow for each drive. Source the hoses and follow them to the tanks. It could have air in it if it got too low somehow, you may see about finding a bleeding procedure and changing the fluid. Otherwise, with the age of the mower, it may have just failed or be on its way. I don't know a ton about the drives, so I can't advise on service. Hope you get it!
