Hello first time poster so thank you in advance. I have a Freedom Z with a Kohler KT725-3027. When I go to start it cranks but then acts like it gives up and makes a noise (not clicking) almost like it disengages or cuts out. So I wait and then usually after a few times starts. Could this be the starter going out? It makes the same sound as on a car. Thanks!!
Hook your vehicle battery to the mower with jumper leads.
Problem goes away then the battery is at fault
Remove the spark plugs & crank the motor
Problem goes away , valve lash is suspect
Jump directly from a battery to the + on the starter motor
Problem goes away the solenoid is suspect
Jump form the battery - to the engine
Problem goes away = bag ground contact
No particular order just as the came to mind
Should keep you busy for an hour or so
Basicly it is bypassing or substitution.
