Ok,so I lost my cell phone in a big lumber pile somewhere. It was time for my free phone upgrade, but free it was not, because my phone is a military grade beast.
Step 1--call Verizon and quoted 119.00..but I was told about a 50.00 discount--then suddenly his equipment quit working and he told me to go to a store[more on that later]
Step 2. Go to store and the deal is 119.00 and they never heard of the 50.00 rebate
Step 3. Back to online Verizon to try another operator, but still no 50.00 discount.Told the operator of my experience so far and that I guess that I would need to replace my phone with a crappy model as 119.00 is too much money. The nice operator advised me that I might try Wal-Mart to see if I could get a better price.
Step 4 Wal Mart was 9.99 instead of 119.99. There was a 30.00 hook up fee and I kept my service just like it was/is with Verizon.
Step 5 Had to call Verizon to get my saved stuff from my lost phone to my new one. When the operator asked me if I was happy,I told her that it seemed like a weird way to run a business that I had to go outside their company to get a good deal on a new phone---so she apologized -----and gave me a 20.00 courtesy credit on my cell phone bill. I think the guy who offered the 50.00 rebate in step 1 realized that he made a mistake on the pricing and lied to me and dumped my call to stay out of trouble with his boss--but he did me a huge favor .
Step 6 post my experience here to advise you guys with replacement phone upgrades to get your best deal from your carrier and then check online with Wal-Mart. It wound up saving me a pile of money!
