Seems like lately I have had quite a few B&S V-twin engines that run erratically especially under load. These come to me usually after plugs, coils, fuel pump and a carburetor have been replaced.
Sure enough, someone did not realize that if the valve cover vacuum pulse hose is cracked or has the end cracked. The problem is the fuel pump does not work efficiently. The engine will usually run erratically at all RPMs due to poor fuel volume going to the carburetor.
On quite a few of them I have found the hose cracked in the area where it fits on the Fuel pump vacuum nipple. For poor customer cases to provide a quick temporary fix, I fill the cracks with 3M black automotive adhesive and let it set up. I tell the customer, and they usually just want to order the hose later and replace it themself.
What is disturbing is many parts changer types in the shops I visit have no idea how these fuel pumps even work.
