I have Craftsman rider model 917.270821, and it won't start. OK, here is what I've done so far.

The mower won't start using the ignition switch, but will when I jump across the posts on the starter solenoid.
I've replaced the solenoid with two new ones, no change, will only start when shorted across the posts.
The fuse is good, wiring looks fine, battery and cables OK.

Is it possible that the only problem is a bad iginition swithch?
When I short the solenoid posts and the engine starts and runs great, I can kill the engine by turning the ignition swithch off. But engine won't restart with the ignition switch.

Please give me some advice. New solenoids don't help......

Chech all the connections on the ign switch, clean them up. Trace the wire from the starter solenoid to the ign switch. See if the ign switch is sending 12 volts to the solenoid when the switch is turned to the start position, if not, bad ign switch, and thats assuming all the safety interlocks are made.

Hey Wildbill, I got it going. Every ignition connection I could find cleaned and reassembled. The mower belongs to my neighbor lady. Her husband passed away a month ago, and she needed the help. Thanks for the advice...I forgot to add I did get the clutch interlock switch installed. Not easy, but now at least I know how to do it.
