First time posting as I have never run across this in all my time. I recently removed a tire from a rider and it had a peculiar rattle to it. I dismounted the tire from the rim and found two 7 inch pieces of wooden broom handles in the tire. Only thing I can figure is they were put there to absorb moisture. Has anyone run across this and do they come up with the same conclusion? I have to say, the inside of the tire and wheel was nice and dry.

I doubt your conclusion is correct. My guess is an April Fools joke that was never reversed.

Auto manufacturers were putting empty Coke bottles inside door panels to mess with customers in the seventies. Sounds like the same thing.
