Recoil Starter Part Number Identification Problem

Working on a Bolens/MTD Model 11A-B06R765(has a number 421852 under the model # ) s/n 1G253K10481

Mower's recoil came to me in pieces off the mower....I ordered a new starter that came with a "insert" looking piece with a 4 bolt pattern loose. The replacement starter appears to snap into the blower housing from the bottom. When starter blower over is bolted to the flange piece under the flywheel it appears to bind somewhere as if the bolts(3) to the blower housing is missing spacers. I do not see a starter in their website that "snaps" into the blower housing.

I must be missing something in the jigsaw puzzle...thanks in advance,

bartles

By now you should know that you can't just willy nilly order parts. You first must look up the engine using its model and spec number with date code or serial number as manufacture do change things in mid production.

The IPL only shows the general assembly with a few Briggs parts so I assume it has a Briggs engine. But which one?

The blower housing has decal information: "B&S 500E Series"/140cc I could never find a specific model information for just the engine on the engine proper. FYI, I could not find in the MTD website specific mower model differentiation by a specific B & S engine model.
The old starter, in pieces, did not include a separate ring that fit the starter bolt hole pattern. It to looks like it snaps in the blower housing from the inside. There were no washers or spacers that might lift the starter and housing to prevent the binding.

Model number info for the engine is most likely stamped into the side of the engine block on the side opposite the fuel tank and carb.

Sound like 09P6 or 09P7 series so look on the side of the crankcase for the numbers.

Now the rewind may have come with a new starter cup [455A] which need to be used and not the 455. Also that ring [930]may not be used on your version of the engine. Briggs made the change back in Aug 2014.

The engine information is computer dot etched on the flat side section of the engine block; you may need to clean the block really well to see the tiny digits.
