Recoil for 8241

I recently purchased a lawnboy model 8241. This mower runs incredible but the recoil spool broke where the spring attaches. I have been looking for over 2 months for this part and appears it is discontinued. I tapped a tiny stud/screw into the recoil spool and it actually hooked onto the spring. I did buy a new spring after i realized this would work but when i tried to hook on,,i accidentally dropped it and the spring unwound and i said screw it,,buy a whole new assembly instead. Can anyone give me ideas or what other recoil assemblys would work. I guess this is a type F engine and someone said any type F engine recoil will work. Is this true. I love this mower and hate to see it just sit. Thank you in advance for any help. Mark

post your serial number, have you tried local Lawnboy shops?

Here is an ebay link to the part you probably need. It's a part number 611400 and your parts catalogue is calling for a 611440...I'm betting that those 2 part numbers will interchange. I don't know for sure, but it's worth a shot. I've never dealt with one of those Lawnboys with the plastic F series pulley, but I have heard quite a few complaints about those tabs breaking off. Probably another case where they should of never gone to plastic.
