Rear Drive Problem

Hey Guys,

I hope that you can help me. My 10 plus year old Silver Pro Series Model only has one drive wheel working. It is the one on the left side nearest the drive pulley that is failing. I tried greasing everything and I pulled the wheel off and greased the through bolt / axle.

Any ideas what could be causing the failure?

Can the rear drive transmission be rebuilt or should it be replaced.....is it even still available.

I love this mower....it is so light compared to others I have had and I have a huge 30 degree hill in my front yard.....that does it toll on 4 cycles.

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

What is the model number?

It uses a belt drive rear drive transmission. I think it is a Toro design and was brought over after Toro purchased Lawnboy.

Have you taken the wheel off and checked the pinion gear.

If you need the pinion you can find the gear on ebay for 8.31 for 2 gears p/n 65-4740

The pinion gears look ok as well as the drive gears on the wheel. Are there any keyways in the transmission itself that may have sheared?

Thanks LL

You can take the bottom cover of and have a look at the gears.

The drive shaft to both wheels is one solid piece, with a gear in the gear-box. If one wheel is not working, I would look to the gear on the end of the drive-shaft inside the wheel.
