Re-powering SR-21S with a B&S 750EX

Hi,

The original B&S 6.0 GTS quantum engine on my super recycler is losing compression and slowly burning more oil. I'm guessing the end is near for that engine. My plan was to buy a new 725EXi with a 25mm x 3 5/32" shaft for this mower when the original engine dies. I was planning on buying Toro blade driver p/n 114-2774 for use with the new engine.

I did buy an engine on Amazon, but I got a 750EX engine in the box instead. This has a 25mm x 2 3/4" shaft. According to Amazon's customer service, this is a non-returnable item, so I got a refund for this engine and I can do what I want with it. I'd like to try and make my free engine work on this mower, but I'd like the blade height to be at or close to the same height as the original engine setup.

Should I get a different blade driver to use with this engine? Is there one that would work better with this engine and Toro blade? Otherwise I'll make a spacer out of steel tube to put between the new shaft and my new blade driver.

Your free engine is partly responsible for driving up costs to everyone else. Do you think Amazon just eats the profit loss or passes on the cost to customers in the form of price increases?

Don't ever rig a blade adapter onto an engine shaft. That will get someone seriously hurt or killed. A flying mower blade is no joke, I've seen it happen once and that was enough.

Torsional forces combined with RPM are nothing to experiment with.

My advice is to find another mower chassis with a blown engine that this engine will work on or buy another mower and sell this new engine on Ebay or a similar site.

There are a variety of blade adapters made, but you will search for days only to be disappointed with wrong ones. It will also require a longer grade 5 or 8 fine thread bolt also, which will not be easy to locate.
