While doing spring service to my mower i noticed the hydro fluid reservoir didn't have any oil up to the full cold line. When I go to fill it up to that line, will I still need to remove the overflow plugs? I've had this mower a few years and haven't ever done anything with the hydro fluid/filters. And can I just use any 15W/50 or 20W/50 oil to top it off?

No Sir, just keep adding to the reservoir as necessary. Run it a couple of minutes, check it, few more minutes, check it. Once you have it showing at the bottom of the reservoir, you're good.
