Push mower with Briggs engine pull crank

Hey all! New to the site. Have a weird issue. Pull cord sometimes turns crankshaft and sometimes not. Removed pull cover. The shaft it mounts to spins freely and crank not turning.

Is there a pawl that has broken that connects pull crank with crankshaft?

Your problem might be new to you but it is old to us.
We have nothing to work with other than the words you typed on the screen.
So some sort of a hint as to what B & S engine would be useful.:confused2:
There is a dozen or so different starter mechanism that could be on your motor.

Yes I agree with Bert ~!~! We need the model number and type code....

The way you explain it it seems like you have a ratchet type that is the flywheel nut also ????? When you turn it do you hear some balls clicking ????

Well, I think I figured it out. Sorry for the vague info. It’s the starter clutch.
