getting ready to install the new engine on the snapper push mower im restoring and need a lil advice on the installing the belt drive pulley. whats the easiest/ least damagine way to install it??? i know it can be hammered on by something like a piece of pipe or deep socket or even use the blade hold on bolt to run it down with but not sure those 3/8-24 fine threads will be strong enough to run the pulley on need HELP!!!

Wrap it in about 10 layers of news print paper and place in in the kitchen oven for an hour at 275° F. Then wearing appropriate gloves take it to the engine, remove the paper and it may just drop on the shaft. If not, the 3/8 fine thread will surely be plenty of power. Lube the threads just a bit.

The bolt Will easily, and smoothly push it on... and heating it is also not bad.. but it should not be that tight a fit...
If you put a bit of anti-seize on the shaft... You will be able to get it off easier in the future... :smile:KennyV

Agree with Kenny V, if crank is clean and the pulley is cleaned on the inside diam. it should slide on very freely, if it seems very tight verify you have the right ID on for your engine they make a 7/8" and a 25 mil and they are not inter changeable.

thanks for info guys. yeah the engine is new so shaft is clean and the pulley was a 25mm like the new engine shaft. so hopefully shouldnt be too bad

Yes! Never-seize is your friend here, or whomever the next lucky contestant is to take it apart.:thumbsup::biggrin:

Best tool for getting a stuck pulley off a crankshaft, pittman arm puller, cheap 15-20 have had the same one for over 20 yrs available thru auto parts, harbour frt.
