Pull Cord stuck - Troy Bilt

Ran out of gas in the middle of mowing (2 year old Troy Bilt). Refilled gas tank but when I went to pull the cord it pulled a few inches and got stuck. I unscrewed the top and the cord and recoil unit worked fine by itself. Doing some reading some have mentioned the possibility of a bad engine brake. Does this sound like a possibility ? Would this fix be better to take to professional or could be handled at house for a fairly inexperienced mower mechanic? :biggrin:Thanks for any help!

ok first off check the oil if its ok then if you still have the recoil off of it try and turn it by hand also pull the plug and see if it will turn then report back with what you got and the engine numbers good luck

I agree with Scott. Are you sure you ran out of fuel and not out of oil? If you did, your engine might be seized.

Yes...I changed the oil in June and checked again just to be sure - it has oil. I held the safety bar and attempted to turn the blades by hand, but it was very, very difficult. They did not move much at all.

Thanks

Disconnect the spark plug, and try to manually rotate your blade. The undercarriage may be full of grass clippings/debris that is preventing your blade from rotating. Clean off the debris, and try pulling your chord, and it should work.
