Pro turn 460 fuel tank

Does anyone know if the string or connector that keeps the gas cap float. I went to fill my tank and hooked the cap and it disconnected the string from the cap and the sting and little ball fell down.
 
After I mowed and there was very little gas left in the tank I removed it and turned it upside down and shook it I could then see it and use a hook to pull it out and snap it back in to the cap.
