I have a JD X300 lawn tractor that leaves significant tire marks in my yard while mowing. Obviously, the tractor weight has a bearing on it but does anyone have a suggestion how to minimize the effect of the tire marks?

Make sure you don't have more than 10 psi in your tires I run 8 psi seams to work for me

It seems my lawn gets so many tire dips that it actually looks bad because the grass length is shorter outside the tire marks even though I have the cutting height set at 3.5". I've actually gone back to mowing by hand (which takes much longer) just so the lawn looks better. I'll check tire pressure. Thanks.

Cross up your pattern to avoid making ruts over time. Tends to do that on softer ground and thick lush lawns.

I have one area in my yard where it's impossible to cross-up the pattern just because it's to narrow. I've tried it on other parts which helps some. Maybe my sprinkler system is keeping the lawn to soft. However, the soil is very sandy and if I don't stay ahead on moisture, it's easy to loose the lawn.

Sounds like you have a very soft lawn.

Shut off the sprinkler 2 days before mowing then after you mow turn it on manually and water that should help.

Watering every day will cause shallow roots it is best to water good every few days anyway.
I have a automatic sprinkler system and don't have a problem, Cut back on the water.

My plan for the rest of this mowing season (and sprinklers), will be to shut the sprinklers down and see how things go. Living in the northern part of the country, we winterize the sprinkler system in October.

I need to blow mine dry also we are getting fall rain now and cool weather so I can shut the sprinklers down for the year.

Do you mow in the same pattern/ direction everytime?

No I change it as much as possible but I have a fairly small lawn. I really don't need to use my tractor because of the size but I love to use it. I bought it primarily to blow snow in the winter but since it came with a mower attachment, I thought summer use would be great too.

I am with carscw; I was amazed at what Cub wants in the tires on the GT2000-I have been racing around the lawn turning as tight as the machine will turn with no damage at all. I guess the type of grass could make a difference as could some misalignment in the axle-but as for me since the Exmark zt-:thumbdown:- went away so did all the mowing union labels.

Check tire pressure with a low pressure gauge and see if the problem is simple.
