Power but no speed

I have a Castlegarden XSPW57 MS self-propelled lawnmower. This is what it looks like ... https://electromenagers.org/en/trimmer/5232-castelgarden-xspw-57-mbs.html

It's a simple enough machine. My problem is the drive speed - it has become very slow - it takes forever to cut the lawn.

There is plenty of cutting power when the throttle is extended and the power does get to the drive wheels - but it just travels too slow.

Is this likely to be a gearbox problem or should I investigate elsewhere ?

This is the exploded view of drive ... https://www.partsharp.com/spare-par...w57mbs/xspw57mbs/81097f42-e542-41fe-a369.aspx

I would be replacing part number #15 in that diagram which is the drive belt first.

Check if there is any debris and also take one of the self propelled wheels out and see if the teeth on it are worn.

Looks like a Toro Recycler clone. Adjust the drive cable first if it has one in SMALL STEPS. Belt wouldn't hurt if it's a coupe years old or more.
