What you have is a General Transmissions RS800P CVT transaxle. This transaxle when giving a problems can be a royal pain to straighten out. Only external parts are available for it.

Thanks!
great help
If I need to buy a new transaxle (because internal failure), could you give me a rough idea of price? a range?
thanks

Depends if you want to go with the Poulan (Husqvarna) one or the General Transmissions one.

My distributor is showing the 590277601 is listing at $900 or the GT87146 listing at $647. Note these are USD prices in the USA. Now I know which I would order myself but that would be up to the customer as I got one or two here that insist on the OEM boxed one even though GTI is the OEM of the unit.. This is subject to availability. And many online vendors are a lot higher in price.

Also note many of the online IPLs don't list the PN for the transaxle or like Partstree note the wrong transaxle.

New transaxle plus labor to remove and replace, costs way more than your riding mower is worth.

This is decision the owner of the equipment should make. The overall condition and repair history is to be considered.

I just took back in a 2007 Craftsman that I am restoring that has been taken fairly good care of. Well worth the restoring. I have actually done cut my own lawn a few times with it. I still got to put a new seat on it and replace the deck spindle bearings. It gave customer 8+ yrs the last time I restored it.

But of course I had one customer that complained that putting $800 in his JD was too much as he could spend $3500 to get a new box store mower. It would not had needed all the work if he didn't use it a bush hog or at that what all the large sticks I remove told me. Personally if he had $3500 to spend then why did bring in a ragged out mower to be repaired.

Also the OP might just be replacing the transaxle his self which in case the labor don't count. And that particular is more likely need drive belt and new idler pulleys instead of transaxle.
