When some ports exhaust or intake on a chain saw it is on a two cycle engine which has no valves. They are changing timing and smoothing the ports for better fuel flow. You can do the same thing on a 4 cycle engine like a mower engine which includes larger valves to get more fuel and air through the engine. You would want to do more then just port the engine like change the cam, exhaust, and carburetor to get more fuel and air to make more power. This is something that is done in pulling contest when a person doesn't care how much fuel is used and the engine is ran for just a short time not for a lawn mower to mow your lawn.
