Just picked up a 1978 Montgomery Ward (Gilson) compact tractor off Craigs today for one Franklin to add to my stable. I really liked it a lot for me to travel about 50 miles each way to get it. Seems to be in pretty good shape for a 33 year old mower but it looks like it is going to need some ignition work to get it running. Hopefully it is nothing I can't handle but will let forum know if I run into problems and need your assistance. Everything is complete except for it did not come with a mowing deck although it did have a original owners guide and parts manual. That's O.K. as I am not going to use it as a mower anyway and have other plans for it. :cool2: What do ya think?
Thanks Fastback, I like how the rear fenders flip up to expose the fuel tank that is between the rear tires away from the hot engine when refueling.
A crying shame that Monkey-Wards is no longer in business.
IMO, they were quality orientated...Now we aare stuck with Sears...ugh...
Last year I looked at an old Gilson - needed everything, I think.
Its "rear end" looked like it came from a 40 ton over the road tractor...most impressive.
