I have a craftsman 917.203900 rider with a hydrostatic transaxle that I need to visit
Change the belt on while I have the gas tank out. It is loose and I know it is supposed to be somewhat loose but customer complained about the mower slipping up hill. I have changed all other belts, just need the directions on how to change the rear belt with screwing things up
The belt routing diagram is on a sticker under the right foot board.
I like to do them with the mower standing on its end.
All get done the same way.
Brake on to take the tension off the belt
Deck off , naturally.
I like to put it over the front pulley then up directly onto the engine shaft to give some more slack.
Then pop it over the rear pulley back and onto the front pulley then through the clutch pulleys.
If one of them is in a slot. Loosen it to adjust the belt tension.
Wrong belt, reread the post, I'm talking about the short transaxal belt, under the gas tank. Under the seat Not the drive belt. Most people never change this belt because it is so hard to get to.
