I indypower Well-Known Member Dec 16, 2010 #2 You will need at least 2 coats of primer, then 2 coats of color. Prep is the key. Sand it down to bare metal, clean off the dust using a metal paint prep cleaner, then use a "tack" cloth just before painting. Thin coats of primer/paint work best.
