Hi, this is a rather odd situation. My neighbors friend was going to do him a favor by mowing his lawn, but put diesel fuel in his Craftsman rider mower. It is an older machine with a 15.5 hp B&S motor. What would be the best approach to purge the diesel and get the old girl back in action?

Drain the tank and drain the carburetor bowl. Fill the tank with gas. Draining the carb bowl might be overkill if there has been no attempt to start the engine after the diesel fuel was added.

Gas in a diesel engine is a much worse mistake.

Yes I agree with Purvis Drain the tank and carb bowl and let the fuel run thru there for a lil while. In fact the residual diesel fuel in the tank will help the engine.

Years ago STP fuel treatment was mostly distillates aka diesel fuel.

And like using STP / Redex etc expect it to smoke a bit till it all runs through.
We used to flog UCL at the sevo endlessly, now days it would cause the EPA to have a heart attack.
