Have a 1960 Cub Cadet that is no longer a "mower" but serves very well to move a 4x6 trailer of firewood and other items around our place. Now has Kubota Front tires on the rear and this thing will dig holes in the ground before it stalls in 1st gear. I need to have the starter generator checked and rebuilt as batteries need to be recharged at least once a season. So I have the following questions:
I think I see the clutch mechanism under the semi-circle cover but can't see an clutch material, just looks like metal on metal. That synchs with the fact that the clutch has not more than a 1/4" foot travel at the very end of release.
Q Anyone have info on the clutch and getting new clutch material?
Q Anyone know of a source in NW Arkansas area for starter/generator service?

Paint - Cub Cadet genuine paint runs $33.00+ per spray can for the yellow or white colors. BUT I found really close colors from Rustoleum that seem mighty close to the original colors I've found in the hidde spots of my Cub.

Rustoleum 2X Paint with Primer Color "Marigold" Excellent match to my old eyes. Only issue is you REALLY need to shake the can, set it down and then repeat for at least 2 minutes. In store at Lowes it runs $6.48 /can or 33.48 for 6
I'll try to attach photos of each
Will add photos once my partial re-paint in complete. The old Kohler motor smokes a bit but still runs strong.

If you are experienced in equipment repair you should know that you haven’t supplied us with the info experienced techs need to answer questions. It’s way to hot here to start making guesses as to which model tractor or engine you have. If you would post the model and serial numbers for both the unit and engine it would help us help you. Until we have them we have to rely on our ESP, which is only available on days which don’t end in Y.

The following is the only identification information on the mower. Impossible to read? Yes just about, but that's all I have unless someone knows of the super secret location where the model number would be found. OK A big "DUH" on me. Model 70.

Kohler engine model number is K161. Kohler used Delco starter/generators on most of their engines. Delco numbers 1101691 or 1101998. Kohler number 41-098-01. There should be a model number stamped into the starter case. Back in the 80’s I rebuilt an average of two a month. I would check with a local farm implements dealer and find out who does their electrical repairs.
 
So Found the model number and I had purchased a manual for the thing but essentially what I have is the mower unit instructions, and the "tractor's" operating and service booklet. I also have t a cover-less manual for the 86, 108, 128, 129 and 149 cub cadets. There is very little in that manual of any use so if anyone needs one let me know.
Currently I am trying to remove all excess weight and non-essential hardware associated with the mower function. It might not set well with purists but this thing is my little mule around here and i don't see any purpose in hauling weight I don't need. I'm keeping the 3 point hardware in case I find or decide to build some attachment for it. RIght now I've got the engine cover parts off, the seat and I's sanding down to the bare metal where I can. Not going to remove the engine as my skill set and strength don't reach that far. As mentioned in an earlier post I have found that Rustoleum 2X spray paint in "Marigold is a very close match to the original color I find under parts that have not been sun bleached. Also their Canvas white seems a decent off white color as well. I'm going for a clean look preserving the metal and keeping close to original colors. I do of course use Rustoleums Automotive primer paint over everything. '
One challenge I seem to be unable to conquer is the removal of the front mower clutch pulley and the mid-mounted arms to raise and lower a mower deck. At present, unless I get additional info, I will probably be forced to leave those parts in place.
Oh, I did find a carburetor rebuild kit for under $10.00 - Will see how accurate the parts are for the carburetor which I now know is a Carter Model N, Entire carbs can be found from $25.00 up to $400+ depending on the source. Review on the lower end ones is mixed at best so I'll just clean and rebuild what I have.

A few years ago a UPS driver saw my little mower/tractor and told me about someone local he thinks does rebuild work on the starter/generators. I found the number for the guy when I opened my manuals. Will look into that. Right now batteries have to be re-charged about once or twice and year and eventually die from being pushed too hard. I do re-charge them but in winter a cold weather start is tough on the battery.

If that is the clutch I think it is there are 3 holes around the outer perimeter that coincide with notches in the scalloped part of the generator drive pulley on the engine. There are set screws in there that have to removed and also loosened. Meaning they are double layer set screws. You remove the outer set screw to access the inner screw which has to be loosened to remove the clutch.
