I have a Snapper self propelled mower with a Tecumseh TVS90-43248d engine that is leaking oil around the bottom of the oil filler tube. If I remove the dipstick oil shoots out 3 feet from the tube when the engine is cranked. Is that normal, or is there a problem with the engine? The O ring seal at the bottom looks ok but who can tell about those things by looking at them.

It is common for the seal at the bottom of the tube to leak. some of the problem may be the tube tends to move up and down on some mowers. And it is normal for oil to gush out if you crank the engine with the dipstick tube removed. When the piston comes down it pressurizes the crankcase and the pressure pushes the oil out.

Thank you ILENGINE for your quick response. Indeed the tube was loose and the installation of a washer under the anchor screw solved the problem.
