For the sake of information sharing, I will tell that the Relay seems to be the culprit. I ordered and installed a new one, leaving the old igniter hooked up. Wouldn't you know it nice spark was detected... So, I started the mower and was able mow with it.... Problem solved? Maybe, at least the worst issue is..... you see this mower has had some nasty issues for sometime, it has generally been hard to start, even though I gaped and even replaced the plugs... it had a rather high fuel consumption rate, so, at one point I replaced the Carb thinking that might have something to do with it...... Well it didn't, it had a habit of running for a short time and would die, acting like it was running on like the key had been shut off. Sometimes it would after fire. but then that would go away and it would run great for a few hours.... hummmmm, this thing really had me mad on many occasions and I had pulled about every trick I knew to figure it out.... and well, I figured at some point the bad part would fail, completely.... and it did.... its not like this unit has a truck load of hours on it actually is less than 500, and has never seen commercial use.
After digging through the manual, so kindly shared by Engineman, (thank you again, Sir) that I was able figure out that the lead from the relay to the igniter box, ( I think it was orange ) was a dead, and the description of the operation of the ignition system and the schematic help me see this thing was a electronic magneto and the power for it went through the relay. I still don't like the fast idle that it has, so I will tinker with that next. check the adjustments and if that doesn't cure it, I will throw the new igniter on it. ( there is some indication in the manual that the igniter can cause this ) I guess its a case of live and learn....
