Hi. I am new to this site. I am a 110 pound female looking for a smaller, not too expensive riding mower. It has to be 36" or less to get into my back gate. I've seen the Ariens 30" online, but can't find one in stock at home depot or Mower's direct. Can anyone tell me if it is a good mower or maybe recommend another one at around $1000?

I would like to recommend a snapper rer (rear engine rider) . They come in sizes from 28 inch to 33 inch deck(or at least they used to). I would make sure it has an electric start. Also craigslist is full of lightly used snapper RER's for under $1000. There are many other choices, ZTR's(zero turn mowers) are a choice but much more expensive. I realize they are out of your price range, but they are much more flexible and manerverable in a back yard than a traditional rider.

Thank you very much for your advice. I have purchased 2 mowers from Craigslist. One was a snapper, rear engine. It lasted 1 season. The engine went bad. Next I purchased a Murray. It lasted 1 season and threw a rod. I take really good care of everything I have. The mowers get cleaned well, oil changed, new spark plugs, etc. Guess I've just believed the wrong people.....I'm going to try once more. I'm going to go see another Snapper today.

wow bad luck. Sorry about that then. I hope the next snapper RER is a better deal. I had a snapper ztr I bought new I used for 12 years before it ever gave me any problems at all. in the end the electrical problems(helped by buying a lab puppy that chewed on EVERYTHING!) I had with it convinced me to replace it. I am in my 2nd year of ownership of my Country Clipper I bought off cl and it has been great. It only had 27 hours and I got it for $2300.
