new SV730 won't crank

Hello, I have replaced a Kohler SV590 on my Toro 4200 ztr with a Kohler SV730. When I turn on the key you can hear the fuel pump click but it won't crank. I can jump the big posts of the solenoid and it will crank. When I jump from the big post of the solenoid (battery side) to the small post it does not crank. Does this indicate a bad solenoid?
Thanks,
Ravid

Purchase an inexpensive multimeter tool & go troubleshooting, start with safety switches.

Thanks for the input. After finally deducing that I had a ground issue, I traced the ground wire from the solenoid and found that I had missed grounding it to the frame. When I did so it cranked with no issues!
