We've just moved into a new little home. We have looked at the state of the garden, but it's not too good right now. We haven't mowed and don't have a mower yet, we have to choose one.

What work can we do with the weather like this to get ready for Spring? We are in DC.

Hi LittleRed,
Not a lot you can do while things are frozen..
If the opportunity arises you can clean up any thing that is not dirt... remove rocks sticks and anything else that was left from prior years,,, then find where to take soil samples to have it tested... there should be a close by extension office that will do that for you... then join the rest of us as we wait for the weather to change... :smile:KennyV

Congratulations, LittleRed, you just bought a chunk of highly coveted real estate.

I was born in DC and grew up in Arlington, VA. I still have relatives in the area.

Welcome to the forum.

welcome aboard little red

Just wait for spring and plan ahead for what you are going to do , maybe do a little cost figuring on what you are going to need for mower and tools .

Thanks for the welcome. I'm in the process of selecting seeds currently to start indoors, as I take pride in surrounding a beautiful lawn with a healthy selection of home grown veggies  I think I have my work cut out for me this year!

...just wondering where Gurneys is located now

Not sure where their main location... but they have always shipped regionally correct plants and seeds... It's one of the best suppliers... :smile:KennyV
