Belt that goes between the motor and the deck broke. I replaced it, and now when I start it up, the blades turn even though PTO is off.
I have loosened the belt tensioner pulley in case the belt was too tight, but still no change.
Blades will spin faster when PTO is engaged, but will only slow when PTO is disengaged.
The Clutch is cactus.
Most are not rebuildable , some are adjustable.
We will need the make & model number or a couple of good clear photos..
On most of the newer models there is a brake function in the clutch itself which prevents the blades turning.
Sounds like a colapsing bearing.
