Lets start with both the model number of the engine and the model number of the mower. That have used both phillips headed and hex headed screws to secure those in the past.

If remember correctly they are Briggs PN 691138 which a plastic mounting screw with a double thread design. But there is one other screw design for mounting into metal.

I've had maybe a handful of engines come on with the appropriate screws on the recoil cover. Usually a Phillips wood screw in its place.

Looks like it should be part number 690700

Looks like the Craftsman parts diagram is calling for the 690700 and the briggs diagram is saying it is 691138 but both were used on that model of briggs engine depending which decorative cover was used.

The 690700 is for the following cover.

The Sears website shows using the 969 screw with the 921X shroud. If you go to the Briggs eparts and click on the 969A next to the 921X you will get an error message about part not used or not embedded something on that order. The 969A box works on the other shrouds but not 921X on the eparts diagram. So one or both have an mistake.

I agree. Something is amiss. The 690700 is a lot longer screw. But of if I had the actual cover on had then I could verify which it is but I don't as walk behind rarely comes in the shop nowadays.

What I going by is the download IPL from Briggs.

Just got on parts tree with that model number and if you click on the 969A next to the 921Y it will open the part box, but if you do the same thing on the 921X the box doesn't work. But I suspect that the 691138 is the correct screw

part number 691138 this might be the least costly way to get them other than a local mower shop. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1651443919...e5-_n4cwRU8Rxca-aTzOPEH4LI_lVz9xoCwYMQAvD_BwE

You can find them on amazon, my friend has a craftman's mower too, and he ordered some screws for merely 8$.

I understand you have a Craftsman model Briggs cultivator. The instruction manual lists part number 690700. It looks like the Craftsman parts diagram lists part 690700 and the Briggs diagram lists it as 691138. However, they were both used on this model Briggs engine, depending on which decorative cover was used. You may be able to find the parts you need at scrooz.com.au, as they provide a wide range of high-performance screws. I hope that my advice was helpful to you and that you will be able to find the right mower cover screws.
