Need help deciding which ztr to buy!

My local dealers are toro and Dixon. I am looking at the toro 42" mx fabricated deck or the Dixon speedster 48 SE. I will bag the first few mowings in the spring and the last few in the fall and mulch the rest of the time. What are the thoughts on the two mowers? Oh the Dixon dealer just started caring the country clipper. I have never heard of that brand before. I mow just over 1 acre and want the ztr for the reduced time spent in the seat mowing. Any toughts would be appreciated.

Before we can recommend what is best for your needs based upon our knowldge/experience and brands we own, your maximum budget and lawn conditions(hilly/sloped, etc. in addition to "just over 1 acre") and how long you expect the mower to last you(usually, relative to money invested) will help us out. Also, specific series/models# on the Toro(TimeCutter xxxx, etc.) will help us give feedback(personally I recommend the Toro Titan series). I made an offer last fall on a Dixon(learning in that process that they are now owned by Husqvarna and not quite the mowers they used to be......but still good machines). There as soooooooo many good ZTR's on the market now be prepared for the "spinning head syndrome"(I suffered that last fall buying my first ZTR). We'll help you sort the wheat from the chaff best we can!!!

Good questions. My maximum budget is 4k. My yard is flat with a lot of obstacles to mow around. I would like a mower to last for 10 - 15 years. It will be in the garage and always maintained. The toro I was looking at is the time cutter MX4260 42" deck and the Kawasaki motor. The Dixon is the speedster 48 SE 48" deck and the Kawasaki motor. Both have the built up deck not the stamped deck. I think overall the built up deck is more durable. Any help with the decision would be appreciated.

For what you are looking at, your budget, and your needs I would go with the Dixon(cast iron spindles, which I don't think the Toro would have).

For the money the Toro is the better mower. 42" deck will make it easier to get around the obstacles in your yard and the loss of 6"mower width, won't be noticed. Personally, I feel that Dixon quality has gone down hill the last five years.

But of course.....the Kubotas and Toros that your dealership carries quality has not:0)

Yes, I know Husqvarna now owns Dixon and they are "not quite" the same, but I don't have a dog in the hunt for a Dixon and consider them solid machines(better, blue Husqvarnas). And what's this I hear about the "serious" recall on the Kommanders realtive to the belly-mounted gas tanks leaking??? And Toros seem to have a good "dealership rating"(5.63 overall) in the link below, but my pile of junk Gravely(made by Ariens) has a 6.10 overall. Of course this is only the view of the "dealership networks", not the consumers......right??? I guess you & I can only agree to disagree about some things(but I don't hold that against you:0) Link to those stats below:

BTW, the dealership rating in that link I posted for user Rivets, shows Hustler(who makes your Big Dog) as having a 6.26 overall rating(the highest for any of the Outdoor Power Equipment manufacturers...even the notorious Scag & Grasshopper). Of course you've been telling us all along how good the Big Dog you bought is:0)
