Last week TIME magazine had an article that basically said "If you want to make more (money) than a banker, become a farmer. They went on to tell about farmers who are worth a huge amount of money. Well, the tone of the article ticked me off, so I sent them an email opinion that said:

Your "Want to make more than a banker? Become a farmer" (July 11) should have read "If you want to make more than a banker, WORK LIKE a farmer" A banker works a five-day, 40-hour week. Many farmers work a seven-day, 100 hour week, and don't enjoy the banker's benefits, job security and working conditions."

I have never sent them an opinion before, probably never will again. However, the woman who authored the other opinion about farmers said "they are corporate plowboys enjoying taxpayer subsidies while sitting on their gigantic tractors so they never have to put their lily white hands in the dirt."

Has to be a lot more to the real story than these two opposite opinions !!!!

Good for you !

If that woman ever shook hands with a real farmer, she would know that their hands aren't lilly ANYTHING -- usually more like leather and obviously used very hard.

I cringe whenever I see articles like that, JD. There is a lot of middle ground between the non-mega farm or family farm and the Superfarm, but the entire story is never portrayed because it's not sensational or titillating. Those in my industry have suffered similar indignantcies in the press.

Good job.
